2. Build

The Tecno CAMON 20 Premier 5G boasts an attractive design. It features slim bezels on the front, a sturdy and squared-off chassis with flat rails, and an angular and modern back design. The back is covered in a faux leather material, though it doesn't feel as luxurious as a glass back. On the bright side, this option doesn't attract fingerprints.

While the squared-off rails may be to some people's liking, they feel a bit plasticky due to the phone's mid-range nature. However, considering the overall package, it's a sacrifice that can be justified, especially when we consider the impressive display.

3. Display

The CAMON 20 Premier 5G offers an excellent display experience. With its large, nearly bezel-less screen, high-refresh-rate capability, and impressive pixel density, it delivers a premium visual experience. It's important to note that in terms of screen specs, it's on par with its competitors like the Redmi Note 12 Pro and Samsung Galaxy A54.

The high-refresh-rate screen significantly enhances the smoothness of various tasks such as scrolling through social media feeds, browsing the web, and general phone usage. Gaming also benefits from this feature, although there are some considerations when it comes to the MediaTek chip.

4. Performance

Equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8050, a new mid-range chip from the Taiwanese company, the Tecno CAMON 20 Premier 5G delivers impressive performance. Navigating menus, using different apps, and exploring the photos app are all smooth and snappy experiences.

When it comes to gaming, however, the results are a bit surprising. Although MediaTek promises a "supreme gaming" experience with reliable and fast frame rates, our testing revealed some limitations. Casual and less graphically intensive games run flawlessly, but when we tested a graphically-intensive game like Genshin Impact, we noticed occasional stutters, even at medium settings. Other games, such as Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile, performed well on this phone. Therefore, it seems that Genshin Impact's performance may be an isolated issue.

5. Battery

With a 5000-mAh battery, the Tecno CAMON 20 Premier 5G offers a standard battery capacity found in many smartphones today. However, it's essential to consider that battery life depends on factors such as the power draw of the processor and the overall optimization of the device, rather than just the spec sheet.

In our real-world testing, the CAMON 20 Premier 5G demonstrated good battery life. During standby, it consumed power at a similar rate to a phone three times its price.
